MY STORY

My name is Paula. My vision is to showcase ethical practices at a mixed farm that provides a whimsical venue for private events. I also wanted to transition away from my office job, for more hands-on work that would let me have the flexibility to do things like volunteer at my daughter's school.

To that end, I have started a microgreens farm in my home, delivering fresh cut tender greens direct to homes (or offices!) in the Edmonton area. Every purchase helps support my family and gives some seed money to dream for the future venue.

MY WASTE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Meet my lovely waste management ladies! Georgie, Benny, GuessWhat*, ChickenButt*, Duchess, and Priscilla are hard at work here. They love scratching through a spent growing tray for scrap greens, and revel in the destruction kicking apart the soil.

MORE ABOUT THE BIG DREAM

My husband and I love the excitement and storytelling of Live-Action Role Play (LARP). It's a chance to escape the city and have fun with a bunch of other nerdy people playing make-believe. For the most part, LARP groups in Alberta rent community halls or off-season summer camps for their events. They work well enough most of the time, but there isn't much available that is designed primarily with LARP in mind.

Over the years I can recall many idle conversations with other players about what 'LARP-land' would be like. Rather than keeping it at "what would we do if we won the lottery" levels of daydreaming, I decided it's time to actually take steps in that direction. Here are some ideas of design elements, once the microgreens farm has scaled enough to sustain both my family and financing property development:

- Multiple groupings of cabins out of line-of-sight from each other, with beds sized for adults

- Area(s) for tenting away from cabins

- Washroom facilities (with showers) in every area with cabins or tenting spots

- Winding pathways with shortcuts for game organizers and players to move quickly between areas

- Thematic building styles that are different between areas (for example, mushroom fairy houses, blocky dwarf stronghold, etc.)

- Multiple open areas for gatherings, epic battles, ceremonies, etc.

- At least one large hall with a commercial kitchen

- Quiet, low-sensory area(s) designated as out of play zone(s)
