Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use microgreens?

It's up to you, of course! Below are some suggestions, but feel free to experiment to find what works best for you and your eating habits.

Mellow Blend

The colourful stems of the purple kohlrabi make this crop a beautiful garnish and a nice addition to any salad. It's great piled on a sandwich or sprinkled on pasta.

Pea Shoots

Adds some bright, spring green flavour to a smoothie. It can replace some or all of the leafy greens in a salad. It's also great just to snack on!

Spicy Blend

This blend gives a sinus-clearing punch of horseradish-y heat, so it works really well as a condiment. Great on sandwiches, soups, pasta, and eggs.

Sunflower Shoots

This crop is a great snack. It can replace some or all of the leafy greens in a salad, and makes a hearty addition to a sandwich.

Where are you located?

My farm is in my family home in Spruce Grove, AB.

Where do you deliver?

I deliver to the greater Edmonton region - Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Beaumont, and Leduc included.

When do you deliver?

I deliver on Wednesdays. When you order, you can select morning, afternoon, or evening for whichever delivery window works best for you.

Will you deliver to my workplace?

Absolutely! Whatever works best for your schedule on Wednesday. The only thing to keep in mind is that, like any leafy green, microgreens will get wilted and sad if they are not kept refrigerated. As long as your workplace has a fridge for you to stash your goodies, we are golden!

Why do I have to order so far in advance?

To minimize waste, crops are only planted once a customer has paid for them. This also ensures that you receive FRESH-cut greens, because they are grown on a set schedule that aligns with delivery day.

Do you deliver on other days?

Not at this time. Life happens of course, so if something comes up and you won't be available at the place or timeframe you selected at checkout, contact me and we can work something out. As I grow my business I may decide to make another growing cycle and offer a second delivery day, but for now I want to consolidate driving around to a single day to be as efficient on gas as possible.

If I select a monthly subscription it jumps me straight to the checkout but I want more than one thing. How do I set up a subscription order for more than one type of product?

I'm working with my web store host to figure out how to make it so that repeat orders still go to the cart first so you can continue shopping before checkout. In the meantime, you can either make separate orders for each thing, or set the quantity of one thing to however many you want, and add a note in the delivery instructions (or just send me a message) to explain what mix of crops you actually want. I'll update my planting plan accordingly.

What's in my food?

Organic seeds, grown in a commercial organic seed starting mix, watered with municipal tap water. That's it.

Do you reuse your soil?

No. Because of the possibility of mold growth, the seed starting mix cannot be reused. Instead, the spent growing trays are given to my small flock of backyard chickens, who love to scratch through and eat the leftovers from the cut crops. They make an excellent waste management team.

Which crop do your chickens like best?

It's our first few weeks together as business partners, and because it's winter, I'm pretty confident in saying that the hens' favourite is "YES. MORE. ALL THE GREENS ALL THE TIME PLEASE." More details may be forthcoming once spring comes and they have access to garden goodies as well.

* Update - it appears that their current favourite is sunflower, possibly because the remnants are the most worm-like of what's available.

Doesn't indoor farming use a lot of electricity?

I got a solar system installed specifically to help offset what the grow lights use. This way, I can still grow my crops using sunshine!
